Major Crimes Task Force Officers Pursue Stolen Car

SUSPECT: Sifuentes, Sonya - 35 year old, Pomona resident

NARRATIVE: 

On Wednesday, March 26, 2020; Officers from Pomona Police Department's, Major Crimes Task Force were in the area of Garey Ave./Fernleaf Ave. when they noticed a stolen car in the area. Officers attempted to stop the car; however, the suspect driver failed to yield. The suspect, who was later identified as, Sonya Sifuentes led Officers in a vehicle pursuit throughout the city on both main, and side streets. She had a male adult passenger in the car while she drove recklessly. Ultimately, Sifuentes crashed into a parked car at the intersection of Grand Ave./Gibbs St. Suspect Sifuentes tried to run away from the car after she crashed, but she was quickly caught by police. The passenger in the car suffered leg and head pain as a result of Sifuentes’ actions and was treated at the scene by paramedics. A search of the car reveled a loaded handgun. Sifuentes had been arrested recently for a gun possession charge in a similar type of incident where she was investigated by the Major Crimes Task Force as well. Among the several charges for today’s incident, Sifuentes also had two outstanding NO BAIL warrants. She was booked at the Pomona city jail and charged with the listed violations.

The Pomona Police Department’s, Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) is a specialized unit within the police department that is responsible for suppressing gang violence, investigating drug offenses and pursuing wanted persons. The team is comprised of two supervisors, five officers and two additional officers from the California Highway Patrol – Baldwin Park Office.
