Police Assist Fire and Ambulance Personnel to Save 6 Year Old Child

HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – March 25, 2020 – A Hollister Police Officer was the first to arrive at a home where a child had stopped breathing and was unresponsive.  The Officer immediately started CPR until relieved by AMR and Hollister Fire Personnel.

On March 24, 2020 at about 12:50 pm, SCR911 received a 911 call reporting a child had collapsed and was possibly not breathing at a home on the 500 block of Honeysuckle Way in Hollister.

Officer Staci Esqueda arrived on scene and was led into the home by family members who took her to the 6 year old boy.  The boy was lying on the ground, unconscious and had a slight blue skin tone.  Officer Esqueda attempted to get a response from the child but his body felt lifeless and limp.  She noticed he was not breathing and she started cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

AMR paramedics arrived on scene along with Hollister Fire Personnel.  They eventually took over lifesaving attempts from Officer Esqueda and moved the child to a living room area where they used an Automated External defibrillator (AED) and continued CPR until they were able to feel a pulse on the child.

The young boy was taken to Hazel Hawkins Hospital where he was stabilized and eventually flown to a bay area hospital.  The child has been reported in stable condition .

The Hollister Police Department would like to thank our entire local public safety team who worked together to fight for the life of this child.  Special thanks to Hollister Fire Department Captain Jeff Granucci, Engineer Vince Grewohl, Firefighter Sergio Barajas, AMR paramedic Richard Bargas, EMT David Lopez, Paramedic Allen Carter, EMT Nate Thomas, SCR911 Dispatcher Ashley Baldwin and Police Officer Staci Esqueda.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the young boy and his family wishing him a quick recovery.
