2 NEW COVID-19 CASES IN MONROE TOWNSHIP
 
846 NEW COVID-19 CASES IN NEW JERSEY - 3,675 TOTAL
 
NJ SECOND HIGHEST IN THE NATION AFTER NEW YORK 
 
LATEST STATE/COUNTY UPDATES:  The latest statistics related to the COVID-19 Coronavirus from Governor Murphy’s office this afternoon includes 846 new positive test results in New Jersey for a statewide total of 3,675.  Middlesex County reports 62 new cases for a total of 277 positive cases.  Monroe has just been notified of two new cases:  38-year-old female and 76-year-old male.  Monroe now has a total of seventeen positive cases.
“More than 12,000 tests have been done,” said Governor Murphy. “Of those, about 3,600 positive for a rate of 27 percent, which means the majority of results are negative.” 
 
 
PROTECTIVE MEASURES AT SUPERMARKETS:  Local supermarkets have taken the following measures to help protect employees and customers alike.  Yesterday, Township officials met with the Monroe Township Stop & Shop and discussed the following measures that are being installed today to protect our residents:

• Installing plastic health shields at cash registers

 Applying tape lines on the floor in check-out aisles to separate customers to maintain safe distances 

• Closing every other lane to keep lines of customers safely distanced while waiting to pay

SENIOR HOURS AT LOCAL STORES:  Many food stores have established special hours to accommodate the unique needs of senior citizens during this health crisis.  Following is a list of local supermarkets with senior hours: 

• Acme Milltown – Tuesday and Thursdays, 7am – 9am
• BJ’s stores – 8a – 9am daily
• Stop and Shop stores – 6am – 7:30am daily
• Shoprite stores – 6am – 7am daily
• Target stores – 8am – 9am daily
• Walmart stores – every Tuesday, 6am – 8am
• Whole Foods, Route 9, Marlboro – 8am – 9am daily

 
NEW HOURS:  COVID-19 DRIVE-THRU TESTING SITE IN MONROE TWP at MyInstaDoc, 298 Applegarth Road:  NEW TESTING HOURS AVAILABLE BEGINNING THURSDAY, MARCH 26.  The facility will serve pre-registered patients only from 9am – 1pm and drive-up patients from 1 – 3:30pm.  Testing will continue on Saturday, March 28 and Tuesday, March 31.  Pre-register at www.myinstadocmonroe.com or call 609-207-3220 to speak with a medical professional.
STATE ANNOUNCES POP-UP HOSPITALS UNDER CONSTRUCTION:  New Jersey now has the 2^nd highest number of cases in the nation with 3,675.  Today, the governor announced that there are plans underway to set up four field hospitals in New Jersey; located at Meadowlands Exposition Center, NJ Convention Center in Edison, Atlantic City Convention Center and one site to still be determined.

 GOVERNOR REQUESTS MAJOR DISASTER DECLARATION FOR NEW JERSEY:  Governor Murphy has requested a Major Disaster Declaration for New Jersey, making the state eligible for more federal resources to combat the growing spread of COVID-19.  Approval of this request would make New Jersey residents eligible for FEMA Individual Assistance (IA) and many other resources.
