Simi Valley Police Investigating Recent Opioid Overdoses

SVPD Narcotics Detectives are investigating 3 recent overdose incidents resulted in hospitalizations. Based on the preliminary investigation, 3 hospitalized individuals purchased what they believed to be oxycodone pills from an illegal source. Detectives suspect the pills were laced with Fentanyl. Detectives recovered some pills in the course of their investigation, which will be forwarded to Crime Lab for analysis. Detectives believe the pills they recovered may have a nexus to the recent overdoses. The pills are round, blue in color, and have an imprint similar to legitimate Oxycodone pills.

Simi Valley Police would like to remind our residents that pain medications need to be prescribed by a licensed Physician and dispensed by a legitimate pharmacy. Our Department continues to support prevention and intervention strategies to decrease the misuse of opioid based drugs. For more information and resources on the prevention and misuse of opioids, visit: www.venturacountylimits.org. We would like to remind the community to immediately call 9-1-1 at the first signs someone may overdosing or having a medical emergency.

We would like to remind the public that these overdose cases are still under investigation and some details cannot be released due to legal and investigative reasons. Community members who have information related to this case are asked to call Detective Frank Mika at (805) 583-6214 or the Simi Valley Police Department Tip-Line at (805) 583-6984.
