Message from the Emergency Manager 3/21/2020

Good Evening, this is Ketchikan Emergency Manager Abner Hoage. Today we received confirmation of  3 additional positive cases of COVID-19 in Ketchikan, bringing our total to 6.  As more people get tested we will see that number continue to grow.  This is not unexpected, but if we don’t take action now to stop the spread, the number of cases will grow exponentially and within about a week 6 cases could become 26, in another week 26 cases could become 130, and by the third week the 130 cases could become 650, and so on.

Today the Mayors of Ketchikan, Saxman, and the Ketchikan Gateway Borough approved a joint proclamation urging all citizens of Ketchikan to hunker down, shelter in place, and stay home.  Supply chains are fully functioning, and grocery stores will remain open. To the greatest extent possible we urge all non-essential businesses to close for a minimum of 14 days. We urge citizens to stay home from work and conduct business via telephone or electronic means as much as possible.  In addition, we remind you that the governor has mandated no gatherings of more than 10 people may take place.  If we all follow these guidelines we can help stop the spread.

Additional information and the full text of the joint proclamation can be found on the COVID-19 Information page by visiting the City of Ketchikan or Ketchikan Gateway Borough Websites.
