COVID-19 Travel Update: Beach Closures
Effective Saturday, March 21 at 6 a.m., following precautionary recommendations regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus) from the CDC and our Glynn County Board of Commissioners, the Jekyll Island Authority will be closing all Jekyll Island beaches, along with beach restroom facilities, to the public.
As a result of the closure of East Coast beaches from New York to Florida and to ensure that large gatherings of people do not cause a public health and safety hazard, an Executive Order from the Executive Director of the Jekyll Island Authority has been issued and will remain in place until April 13, 2020 or until the Executive Order is terminated or extended.
Jekyll Island and its other outdoor amenities, including bike paths, remain open to residents and the public.
The JIA has stringent precautionary measures in place, including hand-sanitizing stations and pumps at all authority-owned facilities, to ensure the safety and well-being of those living, visiting and working on the island.
The JIA will continue to monitor developments and information surrounding COVID-19’s potential impact on travel to and around Jekyll Island.
