MCTF Pursues Suspect and Serves Search Warrant Following Arrest

SUSPECT: Cabrera, Jose Luis - 28 year old, Pomona resident

NARRATIVE: 

On Thursday, March 19, 2020; Officers from Pomona Police Department's, Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) attempted a traffic stop in the area of White Av. / Monterey Av. of a car with dark window tint that was traveling above the speed limit. The suspect driver, who was later identified as, Jose Luis Cabrera, a known gang member, failed to stop for Officers. A vehicle pursuit of the suspect ensued as Cabrera drove recklessly throughout the city of Pomona. The vehicle pursuit came to an end when Cabrera stopped in the drive way of his residence. Officers took Cabrera into-custody after a short struggle. It was learned that during the pursuit, Suspect Cabrera made desperate attempts to discard a large quantity of methamphetamine. Traces of the drug residue was found spread about the inside of his car. Despite his actions, several grams of methamphetamine were recovered. Subsequently, a search warrant of his residence took place. Officers discovered: three firearms, several rounds of gun ammunition, body armor, and a high capacity gun magazine. Additionally, there was methamphetamine and marijuana recovered along with packaging material suggesting drug sales. Accompanied with the drugs, Officers located cash in the amount of, $3,280.00. Although, Cabrera has been charged with the listed charges, this is an on-going investigation and Officers will be filling additional charges for the suspect(s) responsible for the items found as a result of the search warrant.

The Pomona Police Department’s, Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) is a specialized unit within the police department that is responsible for suppressing gang violence, investigating drug offenses and pursuing wanted persons. The team is comprised of two supervisors, five officers and two additional officers from the California Highway Patrol – Baldwin Park Office.
