Message from the City Administrator

As the situation involving COVID-19 continues to evolve, I would like to share the proactive measures the City of Sun Prairie is taking to ensure the health and safety of our community members. The City’s elected officials, staff and our public safety teams have been working closely with Public Health Madison and Dane County (PHMDC) and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to apply their guidance
and align with recommendations provided by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

To ensure the City is able to continue offering key services to our residents, the Mayor and City Council adopted legislation declaring a Public Health Emergency. This allows the City to respond quickly to emergency situations and to take action when needed.

The City is also following PHMDC’s recommendations for reducing the spread of COVID-19 by cancelling non-essential meetings and events, closing or reducing access to some facilities, enhancing cleaning procedures and implementing social distancing best practices. In addition, we are encouraging residents to utilize the City’s website to access services, pay bills and process transactions they would normally do at City Hall.

While some members of the City’s staff have been asked to work from home to slow the spread of COVID-19, our police, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS) departments along with utility services will remain fully operational. The City Clerk’s office will also remain open for early voting prior to the April 7 election.

We recognize the hardships that COVID-19 has caused for our community. We continue to post information regarding COVID-19 on the City’s website (https://www.cityofsunprairie.com/) and social media channels. The website is updated daily with information from the CDC and PHMDC. The City is also providing information regarding the status of municipal programs and services. City staff will continue to keep you informed and assist you as much as possible.

I would also like to remind everyone that our schools, Boys and Girls Club, Colonial Club and The Sunshine Place are continuing their meal services. These organizations along with many others demonstrate the community’s dedication to supporting each other. To volunteer or learn more about our local community organizations visit the City’s website.

This is a rapidly evolving situation and your elected officials, city staff, community partners and emergency response teams are coming together to develop a thoughtful approach to this situation. We are working with our community leaders including businesses and non-profits to understand the impact this will have on community members’ everyday needs. We will continue sharing our efforts and changes that may impact our community.

We are here for you and are confident the Sun Prairie community will, as always, rise to the occasion to respond to this challenge.

Thank you and stay healthy.
