Dear Residents, Business Owners and Guests,
 
     Effective immediately, the Carlstadt Police Department will take police reports over the phone for certain types of non-emergency calls.  This report taking service will be used in the wake of the COVID-19 Coronavirus currently affecting our country and will continue until further notice.
 
     The types of calls that our officers will take over the phone are those that do not require an on-scene investigation to be conducted, evidence to be collected, or otherwise require an officer to respond to the scene.  Residents, businesses and guests having incidents meeting the above criteria are requested and urged to take advantage of this service.
 
     The goal of this temporary procedure is to limit person to person exposure between officers and the public.  This procedure will help us comply with our social distancing responsibility.
 
     If it is determined that a police response is warranted, please keep in mind that officers most likely will keep a “safe distance” and will refrain from shaking hands, etc.
 
OFFICERS WILL ALWAYS RESPOND TO EMERGENCY CALLS, CRIMES OF VIOLENCE, CRIMES IN PROGRESS, AND CRIMES AGAINST A PERSON.  IN NO WAY ARE WE DISCOURAGING ANYONE FROM COMING TO POLICE HEADQUARTERS IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION.
