City of Fairfield Continues to Serve, Deliver Water

Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, the City of Fairfield recognizes that essential services must and will go on. Although the City’s highly engaged department, Parks & Recreation, postponed its programs out of an abundance of caution, and to follow the social distancing recommendations, the department has established a special phone line for residents who have questions about their programs, but prefer to do that via phone. The Police Department is operational with its lobby open, but is suspending fingerprinting until April 3, 2020.

All City departments are staffed and open for business. “Supplying clean, safe water, making sure you can get a building permit or business license, paying a water bill, or inquiring about a future enrichment class, City staff are ready, willing, and able to serve our community,” said City Manager Stefan Chatwin. “We are following the County Health Department’s guidelines for social distancing, eliminating non-essential meetings, sanitizing our hands and surfaces, and covering coughs – we are here to provide essential services.”

One of those essential services is distributing good, clean, tested, and safe water to Fairfield residents and businesses. According to Assistant Public Works Director Felix Riesenberg, “Our two, state-of-the-art water treatment plants are highly-effective at removing a number of microscopic parasites, bacteria, and viruses, including Covid-19 from our raw water supply 365 days a year.” Fairfield regularly tests the water supply several times each day to ensure the water in its system is safe for drinking.
