Petty Theft Location: 2000 Block of El Camino Real
A male subject shoplifted $141.09 in merchandise from a business on the 2000 block of El Camino Real.

Police located the suspect nearby. A search of his person yielded a controlled substance. He was arrested.

Monday, March 9, 2020
Residential Burglary Location: 2100 Block of Bohannon Drive
At approximately 1039 hours, an officer responded to the 2100 block of Bohannon Drive on the report of a residential burglary.

Between approximately 1600 hours on 3/8/2020 and approximately 1010 hours on 3/9/2020, an unknown suspect(s) entered the garage of the residence by prying open the side door of the garage. No items were taken from the residence.

Tuesday, March 10, 2020
Resisting Arrest Location: Machado Avenue and Monroe Street
At approximately 0236 hours, an officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop on Machado Avenue and Monroe Street for vehicle code violations.

The male subject pulled the vehicle into the driveway of a nearby residence and immediately fled from the vehicle into a back yard. A perimeter was set up, and yard to yard searches ensued. The suspect was not located and remains at large.

On the evening of March 11, 2020, City Manager Deanna J. Santana officially proclaimed a local state of emergency to prepare for the growing spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the community. Per the City Code, the City Manager as the City of Santa Clara’s Director of Emergency Services has the authority to proclaim a local emergency. The City Council is scheduled to ratify the proclamation at their Tuesday, March 17 meeting in Council Chambers.

Smoking Ordinance Location: 1500 Block of Kiely Boulevard
An officer observed a male subject smoking a cigarette within 5 feet of the open door of a business on the 1500 block of Kiely Boulevard. He was issued an administrative citation.

Friday, March 13, 2020
Driving Under the Influence Location: Harrison Street and Jackson Street
An officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop near the intersection of Harrison Street and Jackson Street for vehicle code violations.

Upon contact, the female driver displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication and was unable to complete the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. The driver provided breath samples with a blood alcohol content of 0.17% and 0.18%. She was arrested.

The vehicle was also occupied by the subject’s 5-year old daughter. Officers released the juvenile into the custody of her father.

Saturday, March 14, 2020
Trespassing Location: 1100 Block of El Camino Real
An officer responded to the 1100 block of El Camino Real on the report of a potential burglary.

The property manager informed the officer of two vacant apartments. The property manager believed one, if not both, of the apartments were occupied.

During a search of both apartments, officers located a male subject. The subject did not have permission to be in either apartment, and had caused approximately $6,000 in damages. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
