Advisory

Planning Board and Zoning Board meetings scheduled for tonight and tomorrow night respectively have been postponed.

STATEMENT FROM THE OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
OF THE TOWNSHIP OF VOORHEES

In light of recent events caused by the proliferation of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (“COVID-19”), a contagious, and at times fatal, respiratory disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, it has been determined that the public meeting of the Voorhees Planning Board scheduled for March 11, 2020 and the Voorhees Zoning Board meeting scheduled for March 12, 2020 will be rescheduled to a future date.

This action is being taken out of an abundance of caution, especially in view of the large number of residents who have connected electronically with our elected officials in anticipation of attending these public meetings. Moreover, Voorhees Township officials have also received communications from a number of residents requesting that the Township heed the warnings issued by National, State and County health related entities to avoid large gatherings as a measure of protection. Several members of the public have specifically requested that the meetings be cancelled because of personal health concerns that would preclude their attendance.

On March 9, 2020, The Honorable Philip D. Murphy, Governor of the State of New Jersey,  issued Executive Order No. 103 declaring a State of Emergency empowering municipalities to take action consistent therewith, including action by local officials to protect the health, safety and welfare of the residents of Voorhees Township from any actual or potential threat or danger that may exist from the possible exposure to COVID-19.

This action is not being taken to cause alarm, but rather to be responsible, as well as responsive, to the voices within our community who are urging caution and in the interest of proactively taking the necessary measures to protect residents interested in exercising their freedom of expression and freedom of speech by attending public gathering to voice their genuine concerns.

The occurrence of all future Voorhees Township public meetings will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
