Petaluma Police Department Press Release PPD Welcomes New Canine Unit- Officer Jake Gutierrez and Canine Jax
Petaluma, California – The Petaluma Police Department is excited to announce the addition of a new Canine Unit, Officer Jake Gutierrez and his partner ‘Jax.” Similar to previous canines, Jax is an 18-month old Belgian Malinois who recently completed his training becoming certified in handler protection, suspect apprehension, article searches and narcotics detection. Serving our community, Officer Gutierrez and Jax will be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week and accessible for multi-agency collaboration. The Petaluma Police Department looks forward to a reduction in crime and an increased quality of life for our city as a result of their teamwork. On March 2nd Mayor, Teresa Barrett and the Petaluma City Council officially welcomed our new Canine Unit and thanked them for protecting our community members with such diligence and dedication. Throughout the year, Officer Gutierrez and Jax will appear at local school functions and at our annual National Night Out to meet the public.
