On Monday February 17, the Amarillo Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit obtained a warrant for the arrest of Aaron Matthew Baker, a 39-year-old male, for Accident Involving Death in this case. Baker was arrested on his warrant on February 18th and booked into the Potter County Detention Center.

APD has identified the victim of the hit and run accident this morning as Lewis Lee Helfenbein Jr, a 57 year old male of Amarillo. The accident is still under investigation. Judge Richard Herman has requested an autopsy that will be performed tomorrow. On June 22nd at 6:35 AM, APD officers were called to the area of Amarillo Boulevard West and North Travis Street on a male lying on the side of the road. Officers located a middle aged white male lying on the south side of the Boulevard in the grass median. The male was deceased and it appears that he had been struck by a vehicle. The male has been identified and his name will be released when next of kin has been notified. There are no suspects or leads at this point in the investigation.
