The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a
* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for... Blount County in central Alabama... Etowah County in northeastern Alabama... Cherokee County in northeastern Alabama...
* Until 600 AM CST.
* At 1201 AM CST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding in the advisory area. Up to three inches of rain have already fallen throughout much of the day, with additional moderate rainfall over the next several hours. This could lead to additional localized flooding into the overnight hours.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Gadsden, Rainbow City, Oneonta, Attalla, Hokes Bluff, Centre, Cedar Bluff, Blountsville, Cleveland, Little River Canyon National Preserve, Forney, Centre Municipal Airport, Dallas, Glencoe, Warrior, Sardis City, Locust Fork, Leesburg, Altoona and Snead.
* AFFECTED AREAS: ETOWAH, AL ... BLOUNT, AL ... CHEROKEE, AL
Instructions:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
