Advisory

Flood Warning issued for SE McDowell County until 10:30 pm tonight. Turn Around - Don't Drown

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
Southeastern McDowell County in western North Carolina...

* Until 1030 PM EST Thursday.

* At 425 PM EST, McDowell County Emergency Management reported
Gilbert Byrd Rd is closed due to floodwaters from Muddy Creek.
Water is flowing rapidly over the roadway and drivers are urged
to find an alternative route and obey all barricades. Additional
flooding across portions of southeastern McDowell County is
likely to continue for the next several hours as runoff works
through area streams.

* Heavy rain has ended across the county but an additional inch is
possible over the next several hours as light to moderate rain
will persist through the evening. Additional flash flooding
is not expected, but streams will remain elevated due to the
additional rainfall.

* Some locations that may experience flooding include...
Nebo, Sugar Hill, Glenwood, Fero, Dysartsville, Thermal City,
and Marion.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Do not attempt to cross
water-covered roadways, bridges, or low-level crossings. Only a few
inches of rapidly flowing water can carry away your vehicle. It is
not worth the risk. Please TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN.
