On February 2, 2020, at 1:25 a.m. Gibson County Central Dispatch received a report of a suspicious vehicle located in the parking lot of the Marathon located at 2029 S State Road 57 near Oakland City, IN. The reporting caller wanted officers to perform a welfare check on a White Ford Taurus that had been sitting in the parking lot for 45 minutes. Upon arriving Deputy Loren Barchett and Francisco Officer Michael Collins approached the vehicle and identified the occupants as 53-year-old Darrell Mithcell of Marengo, Indiana and 43-year-old Nicole Powell of Oakland City. While attempting to speak with Mr. Mitchell officers observed him attempt to conceal Marijuana in the vehicles center console. At that point Deputy Barchett with the assistance of Officer Collins and Deputy Michael Rose began a roadside investigation. At the conclusion of their investigation Deputy Barchett placed Mr Mitchell and Ms. Powell into custody and transported them to the Gibson County Jail. Upon arriving at the Gibson County Jail. Mr. Mitchell was charged with Possession of Methamphetamines, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Paraphernalia. Ms. Powell was charged with Carrying a Handgun Without a License, Possession of Scheduled Drug, and Possession of Methamphetamines. Both have posted a $750 bond.

All Criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
