Advisory

A two vehicle head-on fatal traffic collision occurred overnight on Amargosa Rd. near Key Pointe Ave.

DATE/TIME: January 24, 2020 / 11:57 pm

INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision

LOCATION: Amargosa Road & Key Pointe Avenue, Hesperia

DRIVER #1: Brandon Rene Bachelier, 40 years old, Hesperia resident

DRIVER #2: Esmeralda Bobadilla, 20 years old, Hesperia resident

SUMMARY:

On January 24, 2020, at approximately 11:57 pm, deputies from the Hesperia Sheriff's Station and rescue personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle head-on traffic collision near the intersection of Amargosa Road and Key Pointe Avenue in the City of Hesperia. Deputies arrived on scene and found Brandon Bachelier had been ejected from his 2003 Honda Accord as a result of the collision. The driver of the second involved vehicle, Esmeralda Bobadilla, remained at the scene of the collision.

Bachelier was pronounced deceased at the scene by San Bernardino County Fire Department Paramedics.

The Hesperia Station Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Preliminary findings during the investigation and statements obtained at the scene suggest the Honda was traveling northbound Amargosa Road. The second vehicle, 2016 Kia Forte 5, was traveling southbound Amargosa Road. For reasons still being investigated, the Honda traveled into the southbound lane of Amargosa Road which resulted in a head-on collision with the Kia. As a result of the collision, the driver side door of the Honda was sheared off and due to Bachelier not wearing his seat belt, Bachelier had been ejected from his vehicle.

The north and southbound lanes of Amargosa Road were closed from Key Pointe Avenue to the Aqueduct until approximately 4:55 am while investigators processed the scene and collected evidence. At this time, alcohol appears it may have been a factor in the collision.

The collision remains under investigation and any witnesses are asked to contact Deputy D. Caudle or Deputy D. Whitson from the Hesperia Police Station.
