Online Applications Available for Upcoming Citizen/Clergy Academy - Enrollment Now Open

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announces that the Department of Public Safety's Upcoming Citizen/Clergy Academy will begin 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at 311 Washington Street.

Participants in the 10-week course will learn the basic functions and operations of the Police and Fire divisions as well as the Office of Emergency Management (OEM). Students will also be given a glimpse into the training, operations and organization of the Police Division, with insights offered into deployment decisions, the operations of the dispatch center and how calls for service are prioritized.

The training will also include presentations on crime prevention, gang awareness, domestic violence issues and “a day-in-the-life of a Newark Police Officer.”

The Fire Division will provide classes on fire escape plans and arson investigations and will teach students how to properly use a fire extinguisher. Demonstrations of the Fire Division’s equipment will also be given. Students will also learn how OEM responds in various catastrophic emergency situations and will be exposed to some of the agency’s most advanced equipment.
