Newark man and three juveniles arrested after being found in carjacked vehicle

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of Eric Q. Urquilla, 19, of Newark, and three 17-year old males, also from Newark, after police observed them in a carjacked vehicle today.

At approximately 5 a.m. yesterday, a man was carjacked and robbed in the 100 block of Jackson Street. Two males ordered him out of the vehicle and robbed him of his cash and personal property before driving away in his vehicle.

Police observed the carjacked vehicle occupied by four males at the intersection of Downing and Jefferson streets this morning. Urquilla, the driver, and the front seat passenger exited the vehicle and ran upon becoming aware of police presence. They both were apprehended. The two rear seat passengers were arrested without incident.

Urquilla is charged with receiving stolen property and resisting arrest. Two of the 17-year old males each face charges of robbery, carjacking and conspiracy. The third 17-year old is charged with unlawful taking a means of conveyance without owner’s consent.

These charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
