Narrative:
During the month of November 2019, Detectives from the Sheriff Gang Unit (SGU) began investigating a series of robberies that occurred in the communities of Oak View, Silver Strand Beach, and the cities of Oxnard and Ventura. Sheriffs Gang Unit detectives worked closely with the Oxnard Police Department, Violent Crimes Unit and learned the suspects were all Oxnard criminal street gang members. Through the investigation, detectives learned the gang focused on committing robberies using firearms, weapons, and often focused on persons less likely to report crimes to law enforcement.
On 11/01/19, at approximately 11:30 PM, deputies assigned to the Sheriff’s Ojai Valley Patrol Station responded to the 800 Block of North Ventura Avenue, in Oak View, reference a vandalism. As deputies began to investigate the vandalism, they learned a possible armed robbery had been committed just prior to the vandalism. Gang Unit detectives were able to locate a victim at a later time and confirmed an armed robbery occurred in which several hundred dollars was taken.
On 11/03/19, at approximately 11:40 AM, deputies assigned to the West County Headquarters Patrol Station responded to the “The Corner Store” located in the Silver Strand beach community. Two male suspects wearing masks entered the store armed with a baseball bat and took more than $2000 in money, alcohol, tobacco products and lottery tickets from an elderly clerk.
On 11/04/19, at approximately 1:34 PM, Officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to Del’s Pizza, 620 S. Oxnard Boulevard, Oxnard, reference an armed robbery. A suspect entered the restaurant armed with a firearm and demanded money before fleeing.
During the investigation, detectives were able to identify Andrade, Jacuinde and a 17-year-old juvenile as suspects in “The Corner Store” robbery.
On 11/08/19 and 11/09/19, Andrade, Jacuinde, and a 17-year-old male were taken into custody for the robbery at “The Corner Store.” The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office has filed the following charges on all three suspects: PC 211 – Robbery, PC 182 – Conspiracy to Commit a Crime and PC 186.22(B)(1) – Street Terrorism.
On 12/19/19, detectives served a search warrant and took Cervantes into custody for the Oak View Robbery/Vandalism. Weapons were located at Cervantes residence, including a semi-automatic handgun, believed to have been unlawfully obtained. Cervantes was booked at the Ventura County Jail for violation of PC 211 – Robbery, PC 182 – Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, PC 186.22(A)(1) – Street Terrorism, 594 PC – Vandalism, PC 186.22(d) PC – Participation in Criminal Street Gang, 27545 PC – Unlawful Transfer of a Firearm and 21810 PC – Possession of Metal Knuckles. Cervantes remains in custody with bail set at $250,000.
On 12/20/19, Andrade and Jacuinde were also arrested for the Oak View Robbery/Vandalism for violation of PC 211 – Robbery, PC 182 – Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, PC 186.22(A)(1) –Street Terrorism, 594 PC – Vandalism and PC 186.22(d) – Participation in Criminal Street Gang. Andrade and Jacuinde remain in custody with bail set at $500,000.
Jacuinde has also been identified as a suspect in the Del’s Pizza robbery. Investigators have submitted the case to the District Attorney’s Office for filing. SGU detectives expect additional robbery related arrests in the near future.
The investigation by Sheriff’s Gang Unit detectives has resulted in numerous residential search warrants, a total of eight persons arrested along with the seizure of various weapons, narcotics and gang indicia.
Sheriff’s Gang Unit investigators are still looking into other robberies believed to have been committed by members of this gang. Anyone with information regarding criminal activity is encouraged to contact detectives or their local police department.
