Press Release: Attempted Homicide Suspect Arrested

DATE: November 24, 2019
LOCATION: 400-block Dempsey Road
CASE #: 19-328-024
VICTIM: 25 year-old male, Milpitas resident
SUSPECT: Reginald Lamont Roberts Jr., 33 years-old, Milpitas
resident

On November 24, 2019 at 4:14 A.M., the victim called the Milpitas Police Department to report that an unknown suspect shot at him as he drove through the parking lot of the Crossroads Condominium complex, located on the 400-block of Dempsey Road. Responding officers discovered the victim’s car was struck by gunfire, but luckily the victim was uninjured.

Officers canvassed the area and were able to obtain security camera footage of the suspect shooting at the victim’s car and loitering in the area just prior to the shooting. Due to the location of where the incident occurred and the location of the security cameras, the suspect could not be immediately identified. Milpitas Police Detectives methodically conducted follow-up on leads, conducted hours of surveillance in the area condominium complex, re-interviewed witnesses, processed evidentiary items, and ultimately identified Reginald Roberts Jr. as a suspect. Detectives obtained a search warrant for Reginald Roberts Jr.’s person, his vehicle(s), and his residence; but unfortunately, Roberts whereabouts were unknown and the search warrant was not served.

On December 18, 2019, Detectives located and detained Roberts Jr. without incident on the 400-block of Dempsey Road. The search warrant was served and evidence linking Roberts Jr. to the shooting was recovered. Roberts Jr. was placed under arrest and brought to the Milpitas Police Department for further investigation. Roberts Jr. was interviewed and later booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for attempted homicide, felon in possession of a firearm, and felon in possession of ammunition.

The Milpitas Police Department would like to thank community members that supported our Detectives in this investigation.
