Narrative:
On 12/12/2019, Ventura County Sheriff’s Detectives completed a month long investigation when they arrested Tony Ta and Luisana Cardenas. Ta and Cardenas are suspects in multiple crimes of burglary, fraud, identity theft, and conspiring to commit crimes within Ventura County. Cardenas is also a suspect in two separate crimes involving elder abuse. Upon their arrest, Ta and Cardenas were found to be in possession of multiple items stolen during the burglaries and an ATAK 9mm semi-automatic blank firing handgun.

On 11/17/2019, Deputies from the Camarillo Police Station were notified of a vehicle burglary that occurred at the Padre Serra Parish Church parking lot in the City of Camarillo. The victim’s vehicle had been broken into as they attended a morning church session. The victim’s wallet, containing their identification and credit/debit cards, was among the items stolen. Within minutes after the vehicle burglary, Ta and Cardenas were seen on video surveillance at multiple locations using the victim’s stolen credit/debit cards.

Camarillo Detectives were able to obtain video surveillance images of both Ta and Cardenas while fraudulently using the victim’s cards. With the assistance of the Thousand Oaks Directed Enforcement Unit, Camarillo Detectives were able to quickly identify Ta and Cardenas as the suspects. At that time, Ta and Cardenas were wanted felons for previous Ventura County crimes.

During the investigation, Camarillo detectives learned of two additional vehicle burglaries in the Cities of Camarillo and Thousand Oaks where Ta and Cardenas were the suspects. Cardenas was also a suspect in residential burglary and elder abuse cases in the City of Moorpark.

On 12/12/2019, Camarillo Detectives and Sheriff’s Gang Unit Detectives were able to locate Ta and Cardenas in the City of Ventura. Ta and Cardenas were inside a silver Infiniti G35 sedan used in many of the crimes they were involved in. Ta and Cardenas were taken into custody for their outstanding felony warrants. During a search of their vehicle and hotel room, several items of stolen property were located. There were also several additional items seized based on it being suspected stolen property.

As Camarillo Detectives began processing the large amount of property, several additional victims were located and identified. At this time, detectives have identified stolen property from victims in the cities of Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Canoga Park, and Los Angeles. The property in this case is still being processed and it is expected additional victims will be identified.

Ta and Cardenas are currently in custody for their outstanding felony warrants and will be booked on several additional charges including burglary, fraud, and identity theft.
