One Arrest, One Outstanding in Equipment Theft

On 12/05/2019, two suspects entered a business in the 4500 block of State Road in Bakersfield and stole welding equipment worth approximately $2,000.00.  The business was open to the public at the time of the theft.    
Detectives with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Rural Crime Investigation Unit investigated the theft.  On 12/07/2019, deputies located the suspect’s vehicle in the 300 block of Hughes Lane in Bakersfield. Deputies contacted Daniel Martinez, age 39 from Bakersfield. Martinez matched the description of one of the suspects from surveillance footage at the business where the welding equipment was stolen. Martinez was arrested for PC 460(b) Burglary, PC 182(a)(1) Conspiracy, PC 496d(a) Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, HS 11377(a) Possession of Methamphetamine, and HS 11364(a) Possession of Narcotics Paraphernalia. The second suspect has been identified as David Newkirk, age 47. David Newkirk has an active felony warrant for his arrest.
