The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of December 1 – 7, 2019:       
 
December 1, 2019

• No significant activity.

 
December 2, 2019

• Grand Theft Arrest:

Deputies responded to 1050 Huntington Drive (Target) regarding security detaining an adult female for shoplifting. The suspect was observed placing 55 items into a shopping cart and walking out without paying. The suspect stated she must have been “sleep walking” and didn’t recall stealing the items. During the booking process, the suspect gave deputies a false name. After further investigation, her true identity was established and revealed she had prior arrests for shoplifting. The suspect was arrested and the $1,600 in merchandise was returned to the store. The suspect is a resident of Pasadena.
 

• Grand Theft Auto:

Between December 1 and the 2, a 2000 Honda CRV was stolen from the 300 block of Spinks Canyon Road (6BCV OR U 510).
 

• Burglary:

A burglary was reported in the 900 block of Highland Avenue. Between November 27 and December 2, person’s unknown forced open the home owner’s storage shed and stole approximately $1,500 in miscellaneous tools.
       
December 3, 2019

• Vehicle Burglary:

At midnight, the victim heard a noise by his truck in the 800 block of Duncannon Avenue. When he looked out, he saw an adult male run from his truck towards a white Chevy pickup and drive away. After checking his truck, he saw his bed cover had been forced open and approximately $300 in tools was stolen.     
 
December 4, 2019

• Shoplifting Arrest:

At 10:40 a.m., an adult male was observed stealing three cans of canned air from 1325 Huntington Drive (Big Lots). Deputies located the male a short distance from the store and detained him. After further investigation, the male was positively identified by an employee and was arrested. The suspect admitted to stealing the canned air in order to get high.
 

• Petty Theft:

A petty theft was reported in the 1000 block of Bradbourne Avenue. Sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. on December 2, person’s unknown stole a “Bingo” bag and a heart shaped container from the victim’s front porch.      
        
December 05, 2019

• Grand Theft:

An elderly female in the 1300 block of Heather Lane was the victim of a phone scam. The victim received a phone call, stating her social security number had been compromised. In order to safeguard her information, she would have to obtain $2,500 in gift cards then text back the code on each gift card. This is a scam targeting the elderly.       
        
December 6, 2019

• Grand Theft:

Between 4:00 p.m. on December 4 and 6:30 a.m. on the 5^th, person’s unknown stole the catalytic converter to a 2010 Toyota Prius in the 900 block of Junipero.
 

• Grand Theft:

A grand theft was reported at 2315 Huntington Drive (CVS). At approximately 5:30 p.m., video footage showed an adult male loading six cases of liquor in a shopping cart and walking out of the store through an emergency exit. The employees were not aware of the incident till 45 minutes later. The loss was estimated at approximately $2,600. 
 
December 7, 2019

• Grand Theft:

A grand theft was reported at 1430 Mountain Avenue (B’Mans Teriyaki and Burgers). At approximately 7:00 p.m., the victim was eating when an adult male grabbed the victim’s iphone from his hand and ran out of the location. The loss was estimated at approximately $1,000.
 
     
   
Thefts are usually crimes of opportunity. Though we can’t always prevent thefts from occurring, we can try to mitigate them by always locking and securing our homes and vehicles. If your home or vehicle is equipped with an alarm system, please make sure to set them. With the holidays approaching, please be aware of your surroundings when out shopping.  Thefts from vehicles can occur quickly by criminals smashing a window or simply checking the door handle for an unlocked vehicle. Don’t become a target. When leaving your vehicle unattended, please lock your doors and remove all valuables from your vehicle.
