On 12/05/19, investigators with the Camarillo Police Department arrested Christopher Oleksik for being in possession of and manufacturing illegal assault rifles, and being in possession of a flame thrower.
In late November 2019, detectives with the Camarillo Special Enforcement Detail began an investigation of a Camarillo resident identified as Christopher Oleksik regarding manufacturing illegal assault rifles and involvement with controlled substances.
On 12/05/19, detectives served a search warrant at Oleksik’s residence in the 50 Block of Glenbrook Avenue in Camarillo. While searching the residence, detectives located approximately 20,000 rounds of ammunition, 4 AR-15 “assault rifle” style rifles, 1 shotgun, 1 bolt- action rifle, 6 handguns, 3 partially built AR-15 rifles, body armor, what appeared to be a fully functional flame thrower, and tooling consistent with the manufacturing of firearms. In addition, an amount of heroin and drug paraphernalia was also located in Oleksik’s bedroom. Following a search of a storage locker associated to Oleksik, detectives located 2 additonal AR-15 assault rifles.
All 6 of the AR-15 rifles seized appeared to be fully functional and met the California definition of an assault rifle as defined in California Penal Code 30515. In addition, one of the AR-15 rifles did not have a serial number and was not registered with the California Department of Justice. Detectives also confirmed that one of the semi-automatic handguns seized did not have serial number and was also not registered. Both these firearms are considered “ghost” guns. A ghost gun is a term used to describe firearms illicitly manufactured by individuals without a serial number or other identifying markings.
Based on the results of the investigation, Camarillo Special Enforcement Detail detectives arrested Oleksik for the following charges:
PC 29800 (a)(1) / Narcotic addict in possession of firearms
HS 11350 (a) / Possession of a controlled substance
HS 11550 (a) / Under the influence of a controlled substance
PC 30600 (a) / Manufacture assault rifles
PC 30605 (a) / Possession of an assault rifle
Oleksik was booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility with a set bail of $105,000. He subsequently bailed out of custody and has a pending court date in late December 2019.
The Camarillo Police Department’s Special Enforcement Detail is a five person plain clothes detail that conducts a variety of investigations of crimes occurring within the City of Camarillo. The goal of SED is to reduce property crime and violent crime through investigations and directed enforcement. SED is responsible for conducting gang-related investigations, probation / parole searches, and they often work closely with Camarillo Police Department’s Investigation Bureau. SED also often works in conjunction with other Sheriff’s units and outside agencies in a cooperative effort to reduce crime within our city. The Camarillo Police Department Special Enforcement Detail will continue to aggressively investigate any reports of suspected illegal weapons / firearms possession.
