An Anchorage grand jury today indicted Moses Tony Crowe for the shooting death of his sister on Thanksgiving Day.
On that day, the Anchorage Police Department received 911 calls shortly after 3:00 p.m. requesting medical help for a shooting victim. According to the initial charging document, the victim had been seated in a chair with her one-year-old child in her lap when Crowe, her brother, pulled out a handgun and aimed it at her. A witness stated that the gun went off, hitting the victim in the head. Both Crowe and his sister had been visiting the home of relatives who were preparing the Thanksgiving meal at the time of the shooting.
The indictment charges Crowe with Murder in the First and Second Degrees. The victim was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to her injury.
Crowe is also charged with one count of Misconduct Involving Weapons in the Fourth Degree and ten counts of Unlawful Contact.
The charges against Mr. Crowe are only allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty. If convicted at trial he faces between 30 and 99 years of imprisonment for Murder in the First Degree and between 15 and 99 years for Murder in the Second Degree.
