Storm Update:

Yesterday's storm hit some areas of the town more severely than others. There are downed trees and wires in various sections of the Town.

If you are one of the approximately 1,250 residents in Byram currently without Power and you need to get warm or charge a cell phone or battery the Byram Township meeting room located in Town Hall at 10 Mansfield Dr. Stanhope, NJ 07874 will be accessible.

As of this time, the following roads are closed due to trees/down wires and should be avoided:

• Forest Lakes Drive - near main entrance from Route 206
• Forest Lakes Drive - near Cub Lake (#183)
• Tamarack Road
• White Hall Hill Road
• Lee Hill Road near Braemer Court
• North Roseville Road is also closed near intersection of Andover Mohawk Rd (Rt 613)

If roads are closed, please do not drive through the road closures.
 
As the sun rises, Township Officials will be assessing the damages and take action to clean up down trees and branches.
Please note that the Township DOES NOT remove trees that impact wires.

IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT EVERYONE REPORT THEIR OWN INDIVIDUAL POWER OUTAGE. DO NOT ASSUME THAT JCP&L KNOWS YOU ARE WITHOUT POWER.

In the event outages occur due to severe weather, customers without power are encouraged to report their outage by calling 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877), clicking the “Report Outage” link on www.firstenergycorp.com, or by texting out to 544487.
Customers should immediately report downed wires to 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) or call their local police department. JCP&L reminds customers to stay away from downed wires, even if they believe they are no longer carrying electricity. Extra caution should be used in areas where downed lines are tangled with trees or other debris. Motorists are cautioned to treat intersections with inoperable traffic signals as four-way stops.
