...A deep low pressure area will drift slowly from the Ohio Valley into the Mid-Atlantic region today and Monday. As this system moves over the region, a prolonged period of northwest flow will develop along the Appalachian chain which will result in periods of snow showers beginning tonight and continuing through early Tuesday. With temperatures hovering near or just below freezing during much of this time frame, expect widespread snow accumulations in these upslope, western slopes of the mountains in the 2 to 3 inch range, with localized amounts of 5-7 inches possible at the highest elevations along the mountain chain.
* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2-3 inches with localized amounts of 5 to 7 inches. Some blowing snow possible as winds gust to 40 mph at times.
* WHERE...Portions of southwest Virginia, northwest North Carolina and southeast West Virginia.

* IMPACTS...Travel could become difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commute.
