It's that time of the year again!! #Safety is the best present!

Happy Holidays from the Jackson Police Department! It’s that time of the year again to begin holiday shopping. Winter holidays are a time for family and friends to get together. Chief Wiser would like to share some safety tips with the community.
Vehicle Tips

  • Be sure to lock your vehicle. Store valuables in the trunk or out of sight of plain view. Always be alert to your surroundings and have your keys in your hand as you approach your vehicle.
  • If shopping at night park your vehicle in a well-lighted area.
  • Ho-ho-hold your purse with a secure grip. Do not place it down or on top of the vehicle to open the door.
Shopping
  • Shop with a friend!
  • Stay alert when using electronic devices. Limit your distractions.
  • Avoid carrying large amounts of cash; pay with a check or credit card whenever possible.
  • Always have a responsible adult with children. Accompany your children to the restroom; don’t let them go alone.
  • Use the shopping cart safety belt for a child.
  • Teach children their address and a parent’s/guardian’s phone number to give to police officers, mall security, or store clerks in case your child is separated from you.
Home Safety Tips
  • Large displays of holiday gifts should not be visible through the windows and doors of your home.
  • Be extra cautious about locking doors and windows when you leave the house.
  • If you use lights on your Christmas Tree ensure the wiring is not damaged. Frayed or damaged wiring can cause a fire.
  • Be sure to blow out all candles when you leave your home and before going to bed.
  • Test smoke alarms. Overloaded outlets = Fire Hazard!
Stay safe this holiday season.
