Suspect arrested in recent South Campus shooting

On November 10th at about 2:36 am, officers responded to the 2400 block of Durant Avenue on a report of gunfire. At the scene, officers found a man in his 20’s who was struck by gunfire. The man was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

During the investigation of this incident, officers located the handgun used in the shooting and learned that the suspect fired the handgun in the direction of a crowd of people on the 2500 block—injuring the man in his 20’s (an innocent bystander).

Since that time, detectives were able to identify the suspect as Jucari Anderson (Male, 42 years old, San Pablo, CA).

On November 20th, members from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) along with the US Marshals Office were able to arrest Jucari Anderson for our warrant for Assault with a Deadly weapon and other weapons related crimes.

This incident is one of several incidents of gunfire in the area surrounding UC Berkeley campus this year.  The Berkeley Police Department takes pride in keeping our community safe and we will continue to work with our community to identify, investigate and pursue criminals who commit violence.
