This year many shoppers will be out early to find those big bargains on Black Friday or online for Cyber Monday, but the criminals will be out too. Here are a few safety tips from Lancaster Sheriff's Station to help you shop safely while getting those great holiday bargains throughout the shopping season.

1. Do NOT buy more than you can carry. While you're struggling with your purchases, a would be thief could easily run by and grab one of your other packages, cell phone, purse or car keys. Plan ahead by taking a friend with you or ask a store employee to help you carry your packages to the car.

2. Do NOT leave packages visible in your car windows. This is a prime example of what NOT to do. This is only tempting a would be thief, enticing them to break your window AND steal your gift. Instead, lock packages in the trunk or, if possible, take them directly home. Got a few places you want to stop by, drop off some items at home before heading to your next location.

Planning ahead and taking a few minor precautions can save you big time. And isn't that the goal of everyone's Black Friday shopping after all?
