Advisory

Wind Advisory in effect to 3PM Sunday; Red Flag Warning issued for Sunday, 1AM-6PM

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a Wind Advisory for the Santa Monica Mountains recreation area, including parts of Malibu, for 6:00 AM Saturday morning, November 16, through 3:00 PM Sunday afternoon November 17.

Northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts to 45 mph, and isolated gusts to 55 mph are possible late Saturday night and Sunday morning in the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational area from 6:00 AM Saturday morning to 3:00 PM Sunday.

Gusty winds will make driving difficult and could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Report any power outages to Southern California Edison (SCE).

The strongest winds will occur through and below passes and canyons, especially the western portion near the Ventura County line. Roadways impacted by gusty cross winds could include Kanan Dume, Malibu Canyon, Topanga, and Decker Canyon Roads.

If downed power lines are observed, do not go near the lines and immediately call 911.

Motorists should use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle, and residents should secure outdoor objects, such as patio furniture.

NWS also issued a Red Flag Warning due to high temperatures, strong winds, and low relative humidity in Los Angeles and Ventura County mountain areas, and in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valley areas. The Red Flag Warning is in effect from 1:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, November 17.

Temperatures in the Malibu area are expected to reach 82 to 93 degrees, and relative humidity will range between 8-15 percent.

Northeast winds will increase late Saturday night, peaking early Sunday morning through late Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.

If fire ignition occurs, conditions may be favorable for extreme fire behavior which would threaten life and property.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Use extreme caution with potential fire ignition sources.
