Advisory

Reminder: Prescribed Fire Project at San Pablo Reservoir today, Saturday 11/16.

On Saturday, November 16 CAL Fire, East Bay Municipal Utility District and the Moraga-Orinda Fire District will be taking advantage of the cool Fall weather to complete a 12-acre prescribed fire project on the East side of San Pablo Reservoir. The project is located in a remote area approximately ¾ mile North West of Briones Dam and is part of the North Orinda Shaded Fuel Break.

The low-intensity, understory burn will begin at approximately 10:00 AM and should be concluded by 5:00 PM each day. The project is intended to reduce heavy fuels in the area and promote regeneration of native oaks.

Safety is our number one priority. The burn is being coordinated with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to ensure the acres treated and timing will minimize smoke impacts on smoke-sensitive sites. If burning conditions change the project will be rescheduled.

Residents in the Sleepy Hollow, Manzanita and Monte Vista neighborhoods may see or smell smoke in the area. Closing exterior doors and windows during the day will help to keep smoke from entering homes. Signs cautioning motorists and bicycles of the additional fire equipment traffic and potential for reduced visibility along adjacent roadways will be posted in the area. MOFD will continue to keep residents informed of any changes in the project plan via Nextdoor and Social Media.
