Detectives investigated an armed carjacking and identified and arrested Marqual Spears of San Bernardino

DATE/TIME: Saturday, October 5, 2019 / 5:52 a.m.

INCIDENT: PC 215 – Armed Carjacking

LOCATION: 7700 Block of Central Avenue, Highland

SUSPECT: Marqual Spears, 23-year-old resident of San Bernardino

VICTIM(S): Confidential

SUMMARY:
On Saturday, October 5, 2019, at about 5:52 a.m., deputies assigned to the Highland Police Department were dispatched to the YMCA, located on Central Avenue, for a report of an armed carjacking that just occurred. The investigation revealed Marqual Spears opened the driver’s side door of the vehicle, pointed a handgun at the victim, and told her to get out. Fearing for her safety, the victim ran off. Spears entered the driver’s seat of the vehicle and told the passenger to get out, but she refused. Spears struck the passenger on the right side of the face with the firearm. The passenger exited and Spears drove off in the vehicle.

On Sunday, October 6, 2019, the stolen vehicle was recovered on the 1400 block of Lynwood Drive in the city of San Bernardino.

On Thursday, November 14, 2019, members of the San Bernardino County Special Enforcement Team located and arrested Spears near the 3900 block of North Genevieve Street in the city of San Bernardino. Investigators immediately served a search warrant at Spear’s residence.

Spears was booked into the Central Detention Center for armed carjacking with a bail set at $250,000.00. Spears also had a no bail arrest warrant for possession of a controlled substance while armed. He is scheduled to appear in the Superior Court of San Bernardino on November 18, 2019 to be arraigned for the charges.
