On November 13, 2019, Jackson Police Chief, Julian Wiser and Major Phillip Kemper attended a Press Conference in the Federal Building Memphis, TN. Attorney General William P. Barr launched a new initiative called Project Guardian which is a national effort to reduce gun violence and prevent gun crimes.
“Building on the success of past programs like Triggerlock, Project Guardian will strengthen our efforts to reduce gun violence by allowing the federal government and our state and local partners to better target offenders who use guns in crimes and those who try to buy guns illegally,” said Attorney General William P. Barr.
Project Guardian’s implementation is based on five principles: Coordinated Prosecution, Enforcing the Background Check System, Improved Information Sharing, Coordinated Response to Mental Health Denials, and Crime Gun Intelligence Coordination.
