Charles Dunn arrested for OUI and weapons charges after being stopped for speeding

At 12:13 AM on Sunday, November 10, 2019, two APD officers with the Impaired Driving Enforcement Unit (IDEU) were conducting speed enforcement on Minnesota Drive near Raspberry Road when they were passed by a 2015 gray Audi sedan that was traveling 128 mph in a posted 60 mph zone.  As one of the officers was in the processing of catching up to the Audi, he saw the Audi exit onto Strawberry.  The officer temporarily lost sight of the vehicle, and then saw it again stopped for the stoplight at Strawberry and Northwood.  When the light turned green the Audi accelerated to a speed of over 60 mph in a posted 30 mph zone.  The officer initiated the traffic stop at Strawberry and Arlene; the Audi finally pulled over on the side of Strawberry just east of Cranberry.
When the officer made contact with the driver, 36-year-old Charles A. Dunn III, the officer noticed signs of impairment.  The officer spoke with Dunn for a few moments before asking Dunn to step out of the vehicle.  The officer began to administer Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs).  After completing one of the tests Dunn refused to participate in any more.  At that time Dunn was taken into custody for Operating under the Influence.
Other officers had arrived on scene to help with the processing.  While the SFSTs were being administered, one of them walked over to the Audi and saw a handgun lying on the front passenger seat.  At no time did Dunn notify any of the officers that he was in possession of a weapon.
Dunn III was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Operating under the Influence, Reckless Driving, Misconduct Involving a Weapon – Drunk in Possession, and Misconduct Involving a Weapon – Fail to Inform.
