A Rexmont couple reported last week they lost $17,078.00 in a scam that began with a phone call they received October 29th advising they had won 3.5 million dollars in the Nevada Lottery Sweepstakes.
Over the course of the past several years we've had residents lose significant amounts of money, some in the tens of thousands of dollars, to a variety of scams and frauds.
Residents are reminded of the need to be suspicious of and vigilant in dealing with any phone calls concerning lottery winnings, warrants of arrest, taxes owed to the IRS, Medicare & Social Security problems, missed jury duty, locked computers, etc.
The police department is always available to answer questions as to the legitimacy of any such call.
