School Resource Officers Locate Illegally Possessed Firearm

On Thursday, November 7, 2019, School Resource Officers (SRO) responded to a call of a juvenile who was in possession of a firearm at school.  Fairfield Police SRO’s worked with the Fairfield Suisun Unified School District to safely contact the student, removing him from class.  It was determined that he was not in possession of a firearm on campus. The SRO also obtained information that the student was going to go to another High School campus after school to confront a student he had a previous altercation with.

Due to the nature of this threat, Fairfield Police SRO’s James Lewis and Josh Bender were in the area when school let out at approximately 2:50 PM.  Officer Lewis noticed the student get into a gold sedan and leave the area.  A traffic stop was conducted due to the illegal window tint on the driver and passenger front windows.  During the stop Officer’s Lewis and Bender located 5 juveniles and 1 adult in the vehicle.  The student in question was in the back seat along with 3 other juveniles.

During a search of the vehicle an illegally possessed firearm was located under the driver’s seat.  The firearm was a replica Glock semi-automatic handgun with no serial number, it had a loaded magazine inserted.  The driver was cited and released at the scene for Contributing to a Minor.  Two juvenile males, ages 16 and 17, were arrested on several weapon violation charges and booked into Solano County Juvenile Hall without incident.

Thanks to the diligent work of Officer’s Lewis and Bender, it is highly likely that they were able to prevent a potentially deadly situation.  The Fairfield Police Department works very closely with the Fairfield Suisun Unified School District to share critical information keeping the safety and welfare of our students a priority.
