Two People Arrested for Multiple Armed Robberies

Suffolk County Police yesterday arrested two people for committing multiple armed robberies in the past two months.
 
Jhan Carlos Fernandez Espinal committed eight robberies in October and November 2019. Marta Rafalko was involved in four of the eight robberies.
 
Following an investigation, Fernandez Espinal and Rafalko were arrested in the parking lot of Ultra Gas Station, located at 571 West Montauk Highway, Lindenhurst, at approximately 3 p.m. on November 6. Major Case Section detectives charged Fernandez Espinal with seven counts of Robbery 1st Degree. He was charged with 1 count of Robbery 3rd Degree in connection with the robbery of BP on October 5. Rafalko was charged with four counts of Robbery 1st Degree for the incidents that occurred on October 28, November 1 and November 6.

  • BP, 1235 Route 231, North Babylon, on October 5 at 12:10 a.m.
  • Shell, 958 Montauk Highway, West Islip, on October 5 at 2:25 a.m.
  • Valero, 355 Bay Shore Road, Deer Park, on Ocober 20 at 8 p.m.
  • USA Gasoline, 188 N Wellwood Ave., Lindenhurst, on October 28 at 7:37 p.m.
  • Exxon, 570 Sunrise Highway, West Islip, on October 28 at 11:30 p.m.
  • Gulf, 86 Sunrise Highway, Lindenhurst, on November 1 at 11:15 a.m.
  • Ok Petroleum, 569 Route 109, West Babylon, on November 6 at 12:53 p.m. 
Fernandez Espinal, 18, of 260 44th St., Copiague, is being held overnight at the First Precinct. Rafalko, 20, of 1122 11th St., West Babylon, is being held overnight at the Fourth Precinct. They are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on November 7.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
