We have been seeing a slight increase in the number of vehicles being broken into while parked near our area merchants. As we enter into the holiday season, this is going to continue to be an issue, so the Danville Police Department is encouraging everyone to adhere to the principles of Take It / Hide It / Lock It.

In many cases, the thieves are targeting vehicles where there are items left out in plain view. This can be purses, backpacks, and electronics. And in most cases the burglars are able to roll up on the vehicle, break in, and leave, all within 15-20 seconds.

The PD has increased patrols in our mercantile areas, but we can't stress strongly enough the importance of not leaving items out and visible in your vehicles. Working together we can deprive the criminals of targets, and make for a less stressful holiday season.
