City of Davis Robberies

On Halloween night, 10/31/19 at about 2129 hours, Davis police officers responded to a reported armed robbery in progress in the parking lot of an apartment complex located on Shasta Drive.

According to the two female victims, two armed male suspects approached them while they were sitting in their parked vehicle. The suspects produced two handguns and told the females to exit the car and lay down on the ground. While the suspects were rummaging through the victim’s vehicle in an attempt to locate the car keys, one of the victims fled the scene on foot. Unable to get the vehicle started, the two suspects stole a cellphone and a small amount of cash. The suspects then fled the scene on foot to a nearby awaiting black, four-door sedan with tinted windows. This get-away car was driven by a third unknown suspect.

The two armed suspects were described as males, unknown race, wearing black hooded sweatshirts, black ski-masks, gloves and dark jeans. Both are alleged to be armed with firearms, possibly revolvers.

Around 45 minutes later, at about 2215 hours, Davis police officers responded to the area of 7th and D Street for a reported carjacking and robbery involving a firearm. According to the lone female victim, she had just parked her car when she was approached by two suspects. One of the suspects produced a black handgun and told her to surrender all of her property. The victim complied and the suspects took possession of her cellphone, wallet, and keys. The suspects then entered the victim’s vehicle and fled driving westbound on 7th Street.

The victim’s vehicle is a newly purchased white Honda Civic with temporary paper license plates. The suspects are at large and are considered armed and dangerous. The suspects were described as follows:

First unknown suspect:
· Hispanic male adult
· Light beard
· Neck tattoos
· 6'00" tall
· Lean build
· Wearing a dark hoody and dark denim jeans
Second unknown suspect:
· Hispanic male adult
· 6'00" tall
· 200-220 pounds
· Wearing a dark hoody and dark denim

The victim was able to flee the scene on foot. No one was injured in these incidents and a criminal investigation is underway. There are similarities between the two crimes which suggests they might be related. The Davis Police Department is asking anyone with information about this matter to contact them at 530-747-5400.

We strongly recommend that community members remain vigilant. There have been 7 armed robberies in Davis in the last 6 weeks. In most of the incidents, the victims were walking alone and all but one occurred in the evening hours during darkness. In order to avoid becoming a victim, and reduce the potential for harm, we encourage the following:

1. Avoid walking alone late in the evening hours.
2. If you must walk alone, avoid dark unpopulated areas.
3. Avoid using or being distracted by your cellphone while in public.
4. Cooperate if you are confronted by an armed or potentially armed person; property can always be replaced.
5. Report suspicious persons and/or behavior.
6. Activate tracking software on phones and electronic devices.
