Advisory

UPDATE on PSPS and Weather Effects

Power Restoration:   The latest information from PG&E indicates that damage from yesterday’s extreme winds exceeded their original estimates.  As a result, the process to inspect all facilities and restore power is taking longer. This means residents without power may not see full restoration of power until approximately 6:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Another PSPS:  with another storm system moving through the area beginning Tuesday, PG&E is preparing for another potential PSPS.  Strong winds once again are expected to hit the area. At this time, PG&E has said that Danville will not be affected by the new shutoff.  If anything should change regarding this next PSPS, we will update you.

Town Cleanup:  The high wind event Sunday brought down a number of trees, as well as a significant amount of debris throughout town.  Maintenance crews have been working hard on the cleanup and will continue to do so. In the meantime, residents are encouraged to remain cautious and watch for debris when out and about.

Old Oak Tree:  High winds sheared off a major branch of the tree resulting in the need to close Diablo Road for several hours. The Town’s arborist was brought in to examine the tree for damage that may have resulted from the falling branch, and the effects of the high winds.  The arborist then directed a tree service to perform additional pruning to ensure that the tree was stable and could withstand additional wind events before the road was re-opened Sunday night.

Driving Safety:  Motorists are reminded that any time an intersection is dark or flashing red, under California Vehicle Code it should be treated as a stop intersection. We are getting reports of drivers running through these intersections. Our patrol officers will be conducting traffic enforcement, and we encourage everyone to be mindful of these intersections and drive safely.

Water Usage:  We have received information from East Bay Municipal Utility District that they, too, are being affected by the PSPS. What this means for water users is that if your home is in a EBMUD ‘pressure zone,’ your water is coming from a backup system during a power shutoff.  EBMUD is asking that those in a pressure zone work to limit water use and irrigation during the PSPS.  To determine if you are in a pressure zone, go to https://www.ebmud.com/customers/alerts/power-shutoff-impacts-water-operations/
