PETALUMA RESPONDS TO FIRE EMERGENCY & POWER SHUTOFF

The City of Petaluma is assisting in the response to the Kincade fire evacuations and Public Safety Power Shutoffs County-wide. Check this MAP for evacuation areas.

Below is an update on how the emergencies are affecting Petaluma, including information about traffic safety, ways to help, shelters that are open, and evacuations in other parts of the County.

TRAFFIC SAFETY ALERT

Petaluma has experienced power outages in much of the west side. Traffic signals at the following intersections are not working:

  1. Washington/Howard
  2. D Street/ 1st
  3. B Street/Petaluma Blvd South
  4. I Street/Petaluma Blvd South
  5. Mountain View/Petaluma Blvd South
  6. McNear/Petaluma Blvd South
  7. D Street/Sunnyslope
  8. Lakeville/Marina

We encourage residents to avoid these intersections if possible. Remember that when coming to a traffic signal that is not working, you must stop and treat it like a like a four-way stop signed intersection. Get more traffic safety tips here.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Petaluma People Services Center is coordinating volunteers and donations to assist with shelter and emergency response needs. To volunteer or offer a donation, please send an email to [email protected], call 707-529-1201 or register in person at the Kenilworth Teen Center, 150 Fairgrounds Dr.

24 Hour Fitness, located at 6 Petaluma Blvd North/Mill Building, is offering free showers at their facility through Friday.

POWER SHUT OFF INFO

The Public Safety Power Shutoff that began on Saturday (10/26/2019) will likely continue through Sunday (10/27/2019) and into Monday (10/28/2019).  Approximately 4,000 customers have lost power, primarily on the west side of the City.

Even if you still have power, we urge you to stay alert and prepare as the winds will continue throughout the day and could damage infrastructure and lead to expanded power interruptions.

PETALUMA ASKED TO LIMIT WATER USE

Sonoma Water Agency water production facilities have been switched to emergency generator power. For this reason, we ask that all Petaluma residents, businesses, and visitors limit water use until further notice. We will keep you posted as this situation unfolds.

NO OUTDOOR FIRES

To avoid setting of additional fires, please do not use barbecues or burn any outdoor fires.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

City of Petaluma staff will continue monitoring the situation and preparing city facilities and infrastructure for potential impacts of the power shutoff and fire evacuations.
