The City has mobilized staff from all departments to help respond to any impacts as a result of PG&E's planned shutoff to power as well as heavy winds and high fire danger that starts Saturday night.

Police patrols have been increased in the affected area. Parking enforcement will be working to ensure that no parking areas as well as access for fire hydrants and fire stations are kept clear. Firefighters and support staff from multiple departments have been increased.

While PG&E has said power may be shutoff to portions of Alameda County as soon as 7pm, it may take hours to turn it off. In addition, heavy winds - which could include gusts of up to 65 mph - or other events could always prompt an unplanned outage.

You, too, can take steps to prepare.

1. See if your specific address is affected by searching https://psps.ss.pge.com. You can also view a general map of the outage area, though all addresses shown in the shaded area may not be affected.
2. Know how to get information. Sign up for address specific alerts from PG&E, as well as county and city messages from AC Alert. PG&E also offers zip-code specific alerts by texting "ENROLL" to 97633. In a power outage, all City libraries will also be posting flyers with updates. Listen to 1610 AM.  
3. Use our wildfire evacuation tips to prepare to leave quickly.  If you believe you may have trouble evacuating in an emergency and you are in a high fire danger area likely to have no power, you should make plans to leave as soon as possible.

Resources for people with power-dependent medical needs

Call 3-1-1

If you have power-dependent medical needs, please call 3-1-1 between 7am and 7pm to let us know what those specific needs are so that we can help determine what other individualized resources might be available.

311 will also have community resources information that will also be provided by an after-hours call center. If you have specific medical needs, they can also collect your contact information for call back form 311 staff.

Relocate if possible

If you are power-dependent for medical reasons and you live in a potentially affected area, please relocate to an unaffected area if possible.

• Transportation to another location (within one mile of Berkeley)
• Personal attendant services
• Wheelchair accessible transportation
• Wheelchair repair

Call 9-1-1 if life is threatened

If you are unable to relocate and the loss of power will cause an immediate life threat, call 9-1-1 for transport to an Emergency Room.

The City has a disaster response task force focusing on people with medical or accessibility needs. The task force, known as BEACON, has been mobilized for several years and has been working with a number of community agencies to coordinate resources and outreach. We will continue throughout this planned outage.
