The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for... Pope County in southern Illinois... Jefferson County in south central Illinois... Johnson County in southern Illinois... Williamson County in southern Illinois... Saline County in southern Illinois... Franklin County in south central Illinois... Hamilton County in south central Illinois...

* Until 300 PM CDT Saturday.

* At 854 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated widespread heavy rain that will cause urban and small stream flooding in the advisory area. Radar estimates many locations in the Advisory area already have received upwards of an inch or better of rainfall...and with another inch or better coming...flooding is expected. At 845 AM...WSIL TV reported minor street flooding beginning in Marion, Illinois...and this type of flooding will only become more commonplace as the rains continue.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Carbondale, Marion, Mount Vernon, Herrin, Harrisburg, West Frankfort, Benton, Carterville, Eldorado, Johnston City, Mcleansboro, Christopher, Vienna, Rend Lake Area, Sesser, Zeigler, Crainville, Cambria, Royalton and Energy.

Instructions:

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
