Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose, and Chief of Police Darnell Henry have announced a new logo that will be on every police vehicle and building, to remind the public of the “core values” of the Newark Police.

“This is about our core values and vision for the future of the Newark Police,” said Ambrose. “This new logo will be on every police building and facility, every patrol cruiser and supervisor vehicle and every motorcycle.

“It will be a constant reminder to the public – and our officers – that the Newark Police are guided by these principles.”

The new logo is dominated by the words Trust, Integrity and Partnership. A circular design with a police officer holding the hand of a little girl is surrounded by the words, “The police are the community & the community are the police.”

“That was first said by Sir Robert Peel, who founded the London police in 1829,” said Ambrose. “It was true then, and it remains true now.”

Both Director Ambrose and Chief Henry are decades-long veterans of the Police Division.

“These are the values we have always tried to build into our culture,” Chief Henry said. “These logos are constant reminders to our people and an implicit promise to the public.

Ambrose has also signed a new Newark Public Safety General Order (19-04) entitled “Police Division Values, Vision and Mission Statement.”

“This order sets a course for our policing policy based on trust, integrity and partnership,” Ambrose said. “It defines who we are. It gives us signposts on how we build trust with the community by treating people with dignity and respect, how we put our integrity first and follow correct and legal processes of law enforcement, and how we embrace and partner with the community to keep our citizens safe.”
