Proactive Police Work Nets Illegally Possessed Gun

Last Saturday morning, October 19th, 2019, Officer Tuss was patrolling in the area of Auto Mall Parkway and Hamilton Drive. While in the area, Officer Tuss saw an individual riding a bicycle and observed a safety concern in violation of a city ordinance. Officer Tuss attempted to contact the individual, who decided he would attempt to flee on his bicycle.

After some maneuvering of his vehicle, and a little bit of “off-roading,” Officer Tuss caught up with the individual and safely took him into custody. The individual was identified as Roderick Harris, 45, from Fairfield. A search incident to arrest produced a concealed and loaded handgun hidden in his jacket. Mr. Harris was subsequently booked into the county jail for a number of firearm offenses.

Bicycle and vehicle operation safety is important to the Police Department. We conduct enforcement in these areas to educate the public and deter unsafe actions. In this case, the bicycle enforcement netted an illegal firearm we were able to remove from the community. Definitely a big win for everyone!
