...RED FLAG WARNING SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING FOR THE NORTHEAST HIGHLANDS AND EASTERN PLAINS DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITIES... .An upper level low pressure system crossing the central Rockies will steer the jet stream over New Mexico on Sunday with dry and windy conditions. Winds will subside during the evening hours. Haines Indices will vary from 5 to 6 across northeast areas, but they will be more moderate farther south. High temperatures will vary from near normal to around 12 degrees below normal with the warmest temperatures on the far east central plains. The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Red Flag Warning...which is in effect from noon to 8 PM MDT Sunday. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.
* AREA AND TIMING...Northeast Highlands and the eastern plains Sunday afternoon and early evening.
* 20 FOOT WINDS...West to Northwest at 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...8 to 15 percent.
* IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
