Duarte Weekly Crime Blotter for the Week of October 6 through October 12, 2019

Dear Duarte Community:

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of October 6, 2019 thru October 12, 2019
 
October 06, 2019

  • Strong Arm Robbery:
At approximately 3:00 pm, deputies responded to 1301 Huntington Drive (Launder land) regarding a robbery call.  Prior to arriving, deputies contacted an adult female matching the description in the call, and detained her pending a robbery investigation.  After further investigation, the female was found to be in possession of the stolen property and was positively identified by the victim.  During the robbery, the victim was thrown to the ground, but was not injured. The suspect is homeless and has been arrested numerous times throughout the city.   
 
  • Grand Theft:
A grand theft was reported at 1144 Huntington Drive (Best Buy Smoke Shop).  An adult male black wearing a white surgical mask entered the store and asked to enter the cigar room.  After briefly entering the cigar room, the suspect exited, grabbed a case containing eight rolls of lottery tickets and ran out of the location.  The loss was estimated at approximately $7,000.

October 09, 2019
  • Vehicle Burglary:
A vehicle burglary was reported in the Wal-Mart parking lot, located at 1600 Mountain Avenue.  Between 10:15 am and 11:30 am, person’s unknown smashed the window to the victim’s vehicle and stole a small box containing miscellaneous personal papers.  The papers had no monetary value.  
 
  • Grand Theft Auto:
Between 2:00 pm and 4:30 pm, person’s unknown stole a 2015 Nissan Sentra from the victim’s driveway in the 1600 block of Eastford Avenue.  The vehicle is still outstanding.
 
  • Narcotics Arrest:
Deputies responded to 988 Hamilton Road (IHOP), regarding an adult male refusing to leave.  Upon arrival, deputies detained the male identified in the call.  When asked for identification, the male stated his I.D was in his backpack and consented to let deputies retrieve it.  
 
While checking the backpack for the I.D., deputies located a small baggie containing methamphetamine and a glass pipe used for ingesting methamphetamine.  The suspect was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.    
 
October 10, 2019
  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon:
At Approximately 6:20 pm, deputies responded to 1600 Mountain Avenue (Wal-Mart), regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call. The victim stated he was talking on his phone outside the McDonalds, when an adult male Caucasian walked in and without provocation or saying anything, cut the victim along the stomach with a knife.  The suspect then folded up the knife and walked out of the store.  The victim sustained an approximate one inch laceration to the stomach, but refused medical treatment.  The incident was captured on video surveillance and the investigation is on-going.  
 
  • Vehicle Burglary:
Between 8:00 pm and 9:30 pm, person’s unknown smashed the rear window to the victim’s vehicle and stole her purse, while she was at the “Otis Gordon Sports Park” located at 2340 Central Avenue.  The victim was unaware her vehicle had been burglarized until she received a text alert regarding suspicious activity on her credit card, in the city of West Covina.  The victim returned to her car and found the window smashed and her purse missing.      
 
October 11, 2019
  • Residential Burglary:
A residential burglary was reported in the 1000 block of Highland Avenue.  Between 4:30 pm and 8:30 pm, person’s unknown entered through the unlocked slider on the second floor of the apartment and stole cash and jewelry.  The loss was estimated at approximately $1,100.    
       
October 12, 2019
  • Petty Theft:
A petty Theft was reported at 1600 Mountain Avenue Walmart).  After a lunch break, an employee placed his gym bag containing a wallet and cell phone in a shopping cart, then placed the shopping cart in a storage area.  When he returned about an hour later, his property was missing.
